Treatment glossary
Equilibrium, well-being and relaxation are naturally associated with thalassotherapy.
Ideal for people suffering from stress, fatigue and overwork, the marine return-to-fitness cure gives you the opportunity to enjoy all the beneficial effects of the sea. Starting out from the health information sheet filled out upon your arrival, the Aqua-Mer professionals assess your needs and propose a complete care program designed specifically for condition and comprising treatments chosen from amongst the following possibilities.
| • Seawater treatment |
|
Marine aerosol Inhaled, this marine mist has a decongesting effect on the sinuses and respiratory passages. Each session serves to break down and eliminate the dust, pollution and nicotine deposits that adhere to the sinus linings. This treatment is recommended for smokers and non smokers alike. Aqua relaxation Drift away in the pool. Immerse yourself in the sensation of profound well-being. The heat of the water will warm your bones and ease your muscles, all of which helps you let go and relieve your tensions. Aqua gym In the heated seawater pool, the body is more buoyant and all the exercises you do, guided by the therapist, contribute to relax your muscles and increase the amplitude of your movements while restoring trace elements to your muscular system. Underwater jet massage Underwater hydromassage using a water jet guided by hand can help break down and eliminate accumulations of fat and cellulite, and relieve areas of tension. Although powerful, this treatment is non-violent; its action is precise and equivalent to a manual massage. Affusion shower The curist, lying on a table, receives a full-body massage consisting of a fine spray of warm sea water… a gentle form of massotherapy to soothe the entire body. Hydro-massage Immersed in an individual seawater bath, the curist is massaged by numerous jets of water that cause the body to float. The controlled force of the jets, directed to specific parts of the body, relieves areas of tension, activates circulation deep beneath the skin and facilitates venous and lymphatic return. The skin absorbs marine salts and trace elements more easily, thus replenishing the organism’s mineral content. Underwater jets This treatment is provided in a heated seawater pool. You will make a variety of movements as streams of water under pressure strike your body. The movements, guided by a hydro-therapist, ease tension in the joints while replenishing the trace elements in your muscles… a pool-based rehabilitative gymnastics session. Shower massage This massage, performed as your body is showered by a fine spray of heated sea water, stimulates muscle tone and restores balance to the nervous system. In addition to being excellent for the back, the shower massage provides overall relaxation. |

Algotherapy Marine algae and mud are applied to the skin and the curist is then wrapped in a heated blanket. The gradually increasing heat induces the marine elements to penetrate the skin, warms your bones and relaxes your muscles. Algo-cryotherapy Specially designed as a treatment for your legs, this envelopment immediately relieves feelings of discomfort and fatigue by stimulating the blood circulation (vasoconstriction). Self-heating marine mud Once applied, this mud – very high in magnesium and trace elements –becomes warmer gradually, thus improving the penetration of the active products. The mud can be applied to specific areas of the body (neck, shoulders, back, hips, knees, legs, thighs, hands, arms and feet). Thermal ball This treatment involves immersing and moving the hands about in hot alga mud or hot sand. |

| • Manual therapies |
Lymphatic drainage Manual technique designed to unblock lymph ducts and vessels, remove toxins and eliminate swelling by allowing lymph flow to remove waste from the system naturally. The technique uses gentle, very precise movements that help the curist unwind and relax. Lymph circulation slows down during periods of stress, fatigue or physical inactivity. Loofa scrub (vegetable sponge) For this treatment, the skin is first exfoliated using a loofa; this is followed by a warm seawater affusion and then series of alternating effleurage, brushing and toning strokes are applied to the whole body beginning with the legs. Circulatory rubbing follows, with particular attention being paid to the feet, knees and elbows. Massage Manual therapy that activates the blood and lymph circulation, improves oxygenation and eliminates toxins. Good complement to marine cures intended to improve energy circulation. Roll and lift massage Manual mobilisation of body fat and cellulite to help remove sub-cutaneous adhesions. Mobilisation A therapy that involves movements guided by a kinesiologist; the goal is to restore mobility and flexibility to your joints. |

Luminotherapy Luminotherapy lamp Pressotherapy Long, inflatable boots that exert pressure intermittently, alternating from leg to leg; this treatment improves circulation by fostering venous and lymphatic return. Pressotherapy reduces and controls swelling of the legs by reducing the excess interstitial liquid that causes swelling. Vertebral therapy Stretching exercises performed on a spine board under the guidance of a therapist; they are done gently to restore mobility to the spine and cervical region. |
